Behind the Wire is a major national photographic exhibition which documentsthe life stories of Australian Vietnam veterans. The historical exhibition has been completed over a three year period and is the work of acclaimed Melbourne photographer, Susan Gordon-Brown.The scale of Behind the Wire is unprecedented, with moving life stories andportraits of 50 Vietnam veterans from across Australia. It is an exhibition about Vietnam veterans: their jobs; experiences; and lives since returning, in their own words. Much has been written about the politics and battles of the war but this reveals the day-to-day lives of Vietnam veterans. How did our guys cope with unimaginable situations and how did they find life on their return to Australia?Support from the Sky is a companion exhibition to Behind the Wire. Air transport played a pivotal role in the Vietnam War. Pilots and crew fromthe Royal Australian Navy (RAN), the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) andthe Australian Army worked alongside the New Zealand and American militaryto support the ground troops. Included in this book are some of their stories.
